MG TD TF 1500 - Dished Pistons

Anyone know of a source for dished pistons for an XPAG?

Another thought for regaining some Compression Ratio.

Thanks,

I don't understand your statement"regain some compression ratio"
Where did it go?
But dished pistons could give you lower compression.
They may be used to get more valve clearance. Since they actually have more volume, unless the piston came up further in cylinder you would loose compression.

Domed pistons could help, but then you could have valve clearance issues.

Mort, I'm guessing that you want to lower compression ratio. Beside dished pistons another option is to thicker, or multiple head gaskets. Bud

mort is running a supercharger..so i believe this is why he wants the dished pistons..(..but i have read if you go with the dished pistons..you need a matched head configuration to realize the benefit of the dished piston with the supercharger) regards, tom

post script..i do not know of a source for dished pistons mort.

or

- Smaller combustion chambers (ie 58cc) and dished pistons (- xxcc)

The goal is a supercharged 351W, Dart block, AFR heads and Paxton 2k.

I was told by a man who has a twin turbo Nova (900hp RWHP at 15psi of boost on a 355ci), he put flap top pistons and bigger chamber for a best combustion, and he told me max quench as possible.
Unfortunately I disagree with your friend regarding the large chamber/flat top theory. The more of the combustion you can put into the piston, the better.

HOWEVER.

If you do this, spend the extra money on a 'mirror dish' style piston, that has a matched quench pad to your cylinder heads. This gives you full quench, and a beautiful combustion area inside the piston. There are other benefits to a dish piston as well, and when coupled with boost...you'll be in for a very, very wild ride =D.

One last thing. If you don't already have the AFR heads...look into the offerings from TFS. Depending on your budget there's a MULTITUDE of very effective cylinder head choices, all of which...in my experience...outpower their comparable AFR counterparts!

Good luck!

Thank you all.
I did mean that I am trying to lower my CR from 9:1 to 8:1.
I would rather get a thicker head than use the thicker gasket method.
The dished pistons would give me the same effect on the CR as a thicker head.

Mort,

Solid copper head gaskets in various thicknesses are available for the XPAG/XPEG from http://www.headgasket.com/whoweare.html .

They are a safe and cheaper option to dished pistons or a new (used) head.

There is a great article about head gaskets, bolts, torque, etc. under "Physics" on the website Gene mentions above. George
