MG TD TF 1500 - Distributor identification

I am restoring a 1950 TD. The distributor has stamped on it DKY48, 40058A, A131- 11/47.
Would anyone be able to advise me as to what thgis distributor came off ? Maybe it could be off a Morris. The 11/47 indicates it was made November 1947.
Would this work OK on my TD.
It came with the "bucket of bolts" I purchased some time ago and I am unsure if it is possible to use this or not.
Appreciate any help.

I have a list of Lucas distributors for forties and fifties. Cannot find DKY48A listed, but 40058A was fitted to Morris 10hp Car 1946 through to 1948.

It has no specs on that dizzy so I don't know whether it would be suitable.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Ian.
I think the stamping should read DKY4A and not DKY48 (must have been stamped after having a beer at lunch time). As my car is a 1950 model, the cars in those days were imported in a CKD condition. I feel that Pressed Metal Corporation or BMC grabbed anything that fitted and just bolted it in.
I think it will be Ok but await further input.
Thanks again Ian.

Found another list. Was still looking when you replied.

40058A has ECM curve 267 and advance of 15 degrees plus or minus 1 degree. (Are you sure it's DKY48 and not DKY4A).

TD DXY4A 40162A/E (early) and TD D2A4 40368D/H (late) have ECM curve 279 and 15 degrees.

It would probably work but performance would be a guess.

Hi John,
My TD4224 with engine No.4133, built in Nov 1950, came with distributor No. DKY4A 40162A DA37 8 50. The "8 50" would indicate the distributor was manufactured in Aug. 1950. I do have a distributor from an old Morris 10 block, that is N0. DKY4A 40056D A146 9 49. I have rebuilt, and used the old Morris 10 distributor as a spare on occasion, and it worked very well. It is hard to say if your distributor came with your motor, but it will work if it is in good condition.

Ian it is definitely DKY48 and 40058A so it seems it may be ECM curve 267 with an advance of 15 deg. plus or minus 1 deg.
Many thanks for the information.

Hi George,
Thank you for the info. I too think it was from a Morris 10. It is in good condition so I will try it and see how it goes. I am halfway through my restoration so it will be a few months before I fire it up.

The DKY series use the circular clamp for mounting as compared with the D2A series' use of the cotter bolt. Bud

Gerard,
DKY4A is the Lucas distributor model number.
40162E is the distributor part number.
DA37 is for an MGTD 1950 to 1952 model.
952 is the date of manufacture that is September 1952.
Hope this helps.
