MG TD TF 1500 - Door Lock Modification
The small circular plate, with the square hole through the centre, that the shaft of the door handle fits through keeps detaching from the door lock leaver. It's made of monkey metal and I have tried peening it over but without success. I remember seeing a write up on a modification that solves this problem. I have checked the archives but can not find anyhing. Can someone please point me to the article I am referring to? Cheers Jan T |

Jan, Maybe you saw this? http://www.ttalk.info/Sheward.htm Fixed mine this way 15 years ago. Pretty easy: Drill a hole in handle shaft and tap. (Don't ask what size ...been so long ago, I forgot!) Assemble hardware in normal way, then greased nylon washer, followed by metal washer. Use lock-tite on bolt and don't tighten all the way. Done deal! ![]() |

"(Don't ask what size ...been so long ago, I forgot!)" That would be about 3 days (plus or minus several hours) for me anymore ;-)) Cheers - Dave |

I have both of you beat. For me, it would be about 3 days plus or minus 70 to 71 hours. Ask my wife for confirmation. She doesn't seem to forget ANYTHING! |

I always peen the plate back on, with a dab of JB Weld. I have done this on a number of cars and none have broken again. David |

Nice to know, I have a latch doing the same thing! PJ |

Thanks to all - that's exactly what I was looking for. I will need to cut off a short length of the handle shaft since it protrudes through the lock mechanism for about 1/4". My locks don't have the small spring fitted but appear to work well. Are they really needed? Re memory - one of our daughters is a doctor and tells me if you forget a name when you are in your sixties it is nothing to worry about. What is of concern is if you can't remember why you you wanted to remember the name in the first place! Jan T |

Should I be concerned if I forget MY name? |
