MG TD TF 1500 - Early Dealer Documentation Page
I have gone back into my electronic junk box and discovered a lot of historic dealer/importer documentation that others have sent me. There is some pretty neat stuff in here such as export cards, sales receipts, guarantee and even a letter from Nuffield about shipping a car home after a factory delivery. http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_documentation.htm I still have more digging in the junk box but if you have anything you would like to contribute to this page please email me a high resolution image and explanation so I can share it with others. Credit gladly given. I just love the Internet :-) |

Way to go, Chris! Though I am a late-comer to ownership of a TD and a TF, I have always had a visual intoxication and, desire to own, either of these beautiful autos! I love finding as much info as possible for our lbcs. I am mechanically challenged as well and look forward to learning as much as possible from all you experts! Masny thanks, Jerry |

Chris, I have two '53 TD's. One was sold by Woodhouse and has the plaque on the bonnet and the other was sold through University Motors and it too has the proper badge on it. Are there any records left showing who the cars were first sold to or to where they were sent? I can trace the records back to the mid-sixties but it stops there. I'd like to know some more about the cars but have not been able to find any early info. Mark |

Can you take a picture of the University Motors badge for me? There really is no registry that I am aware of. Too bad. Even the production info was destroy let alone all the records on where they were shipped to etc. Of course the best we would have from the factory is the type of info we see here. They never knew what happened to the cars once they got loaded on the ships. |

Chris, I'll get something to you in a few days. I'm out of pocket for a while. Mark |

Chris, Don't know if this is of any interest for you. But here is a pic of the badge that "Molenaar's Automobilelbedrijf NV" was used to mount on the cars. In those days Molenaar was the importer of MG's etc. for the Dutch market. They also operated an assembly line for Morris cars. Nowadays the badge is very hard to get. I was able to buy one for too much money (I even did not have the guts to tell my wife...). Molenaar ended her activities in the sixties. Fortunately its archives are available. A total of 127 TD's were imported for the Dutch market, my TD3966 of October 1950 was number 26 on that list. Jasper ![]() |

Mark, many TD/TF's were sold thru the Woodhouse and Odendahl dealerships in occupied Germany. Many of them via the PX system and shipped back to the US. The Woodhouse "Germany" cars have the twin spires of Cologne Cathedral, while the Odendahl cars have a blue oval badge, both are on the right hand side panels. The PO of our car has the documentation on my car, but it is lost in her archives. Being 90 with poor eyesight I doubt it will be found. I will check with one other source who's car is still in the hands of the original owner. Keep you posted. |

Chris, here are the photos of the badges that I mentioned. I'll do two postings. This one is the Woodhouse badge on my '53 TD 28332, June 9, 1952. I believe that this car came into the west coast since it was sold to my fraternity brother while he was in California. It ended up in the U.P.of Michigan where I am from and went to college. That's the connection with my frat brother. I have documentation going back to at least 1967 on this one. The second photo is the University Motors badge on my other '53 TD 29885, August 17,1953(the last day of production). I think that this car came into the US via the east coast since the previous owner knew the history of the car to 1964 and indicated that it had been in Virginia where I live for many years prior to that and had been owned by a navy guy. Hope these will add to your data base. Mark ![]() |

Here is the original Lane's Motors plate on my TF. Lane's in Melbourne were the second largest Australian importer of T types after P&R Williams of Sydney. The other Australian importers were: Motors Ltd of Adelaide, South Australia; Comet Motors of Perth, Western Australia and Howard's Pty Ltd of Brisbane, Queensland. Matthew. ![]() |
