MG TD TF 1500 - Early MG TD Ammeter Needed
Hello all, I run a restoration shop here in Kansas and I am in the process of restoring a 1951 MG TD. I'm getting most things figured out alright but one thing I have not is the ammeter. The car has the flat, non-dished gauges. It currently has a -20-20 Lucas ammeter with a black face which I know is not correct. Being an early TD, the -20-20 is correct but not the black face. This wrong gauge is a black eye to the restoration and just looks awful next to the other blueish/green gauges. If anyone can help me in my quest for a correct, early TD, correct color, -20-20 ammeter, it would be immensely appreciated. The car is slated to be finished by May. Thank You, David Parry Owner, Rod Man Restorations LLC ![]() |

Hi David I'm unable to advise other than suggest that you trawl ebay. The instrument that you show is not a Lucas item but Stewart Warner so wrong on several counts. All the best Peter |

Try Abingdon Spares or Fromtheframeup.com |

Peter- You are absolutely right!! My brain must be fried from looking and I've just got Lucas on the mind! Anyway, further reason why this gauge needs to go... I've got message from a couple people that might be able to help out. George-I've checked with fromtheframeup but not abingdon spares yet. Thanks, David |

Good day all: Sorry to "but in" but, the reproduction ammeters I have seen, while appearing very well manufactured, would simply not do for a "concours d' élégance" buff. The main difference is in the tip of the indicating needle. An original has rather a heart shaped tip whilst the reproductions, I have viewed, were blunt tipped at the business end. Thank you everyone for all the help. I received an email and was able to buy an original from someone. It should match nicely when it is all cleaned up. Here's a picture. Thanks again, David ![]() |
