MG TD TF 1500 - Early TD oil filter color
I have one of Doug Pelton's original appearing spin-on adaptors, finished in primer that I need to paint. Chris's Original TD site shows what appears to be a Fram orange original filter. Were other brand/filters/colors available? The orange just doesn't look good with everything else! Gorge |

George, I don't know if they had them in spin ons, but the Purolators back then were sort of a dark aqua-green color and the Tecalemits were a goldish tan. PJ |

Hmmm. My Telcamet filter can is the same slightly orange red as the engine. Is it supposed to be a different color? Jud ![]() |

The throwaways from Purolator were orange but I have seen others in gray for example. The spin on's from Purolator and Tecalimite are different. Here is the link to the colors George referenced. http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_finishes.htm#formulas |

Jud, I've been a couple years checking on the original color of the Tecalmet canister and I've been told it was a Tan to a Golden Tan. I bought another canister with a perfect tag on it but the canister it's self was striped of paint, so the original color was gone. The one on the car was void of the original color also. I'm just going by what I've heard and that doesn't mean it's correct. Be nice if someone had an unblemished original to compare. PJ |

Chris, Do you know the name/numbers for the Tecalmet filter canister indicated in the chart? PJ |

What color were the throw-away TC filters? George |

Paul: If you use Paintref.com you can find the color names from the code I supplied. Here is the Tecalemit color: http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?comm=2482&rows=50&button=Search Note I like to use the darker of the two Ford Ginger colors. The other is more bronze/gold. George: I don't know if TC's were painted engine color or not. Early TD's seemed to have the Fram filter left native which included the decal. You could just paint it engine color. I have seen lots of nice restored cars with red filters. ![]() |

I have a few throw away canisters from the 70's no brand name on them but they are a gray color. |
