MG TD TF 1500 - Early TD Trip Reset

Checked the archive & saw a couple of pics but I'd love to see a good shot of an original early TD trip reset. Also like to see some bespoke jobs & some suggestions of other marques that could provide the missing reset. It's been suggested that British cars & bikes from the 30's/50's would be a good place to start. It would also be nice to know the thread type of the small machine screw that secures it. If anyone has managed to reproduce an acceptable version, a 'how to' citing a source of the bits would be much appreciated. Cheers

I don't know exactly what the original looks like but I notice John Chadwick has what could be a good reproduction for an early TD, see http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Smiths-Jaeger-Speedometer-Trip-reset-Spring-Type-/311685281303. Using spring material for the shaft should avoid the problem of breakages and makes for easier installation in the dash. Note the use of a split pin rather than screw attachment.
A DIY solution if you can source the knurled knob would be to use a length of choke or starter cable outer covered with shrink wrap tubing.

Thanks Tim. I checked out the link & have posted the pic here. Can anyone comment on how close to the original the item pictured is? Interested in the knurled knob & the black section. Cheers

I have only seen a trip on 53 TD's. Not on a 50 or early TD. This matches my first TD and this is what I built to get the reset out the bottom of the Dash.
It looks very similar to your picture and was made from Choke cable outer - coper tube with short internal screw and an original knob. Covered in Heat shrink. Took 1/2 an hour to make. Has to flex to get the speedo into the Dash and this bit down the hole to protrude out the bottom.

Hi Rod. I saw your pic in the archive. Just had a couple of pics of an original early TD reset arrive from Hugh Pite. Thanks Hugh. See below. Also spoke to a bloke from Blacktown in Sydney who may be able to help me with an original. He deals in restoring chronometric instruments from vintage bikes so armed with Hug's pics I'll drop over & see him. Cheers

Is it held on by a small screw?

Thanks.
