MG TD TF 1500 - engine block drain tap
Hey all, the new Moss supplied engine block drain tap does not want to screw in far enough to seat the fiber washer. The threads appear okay. Are they a tapered thread that will seal anyway? Does anyone know the thread size and pitch? Thanks, Tom

Tom - I believe that it is 1/4 BSPP. Cheers - Davd

Dave, In my notes it says 1/8" BSPP but I wouldn't swear on it and you could very well be right. Regards Declan

I'd filed a slot into the thread of the old drain tap for cleaning the thread of the engine block. After that I was able to seal the drain tap with fibre washers. Two washers have been necessary to let the drain tap show to six o'clock.

No fibre washer for me. I wrapped the tap thread with teflon tape. It allows to stop tightening it in the right position with no leaks.

Hey all, On my block at least, the hole is tapped at 1/8 X 19 BSPP (I think) At any rate, I followed W. Mueller's method and everything went well. Before and after "cleaning" the threads I ran a cotton swab through to catch any debris. They came out "muddy", have to flush the block I guess. Thanks to all. Tom

1/4" BSP uses 19 tpi. 1/8" BSP uses 28 tpi. BSPT (taper) and BSPP (parallel) both use same thread count. Different thread counts in those sizes from BSF or BSW.

Hey all, I stand corrected, 1/8 X 28 BSPP. Tom
