MG TD TF 1500 - Engine Paint Color

Changed the color from Deep Canyon Red to Cardinal Red! Pulled the engine out, stripped it, for the second time and re painted it Cardinal Red, which is so close to the original color, I don't think you could tell the difference if they were side by side. Here's the Canyon Red in the first photo and Cardinal Red in the second. PJ

Cardinal Red,which is actually a little more red than the pic.

A lot of work to repaint the engine but I think you made the right choice. Looks great.
Frank Cronin

Thanks Frank, yes a lot of work stripping the other paint off. Also it's getting Toms silicone gaskets, replacing the cork. PJ

Another shot of the engine, for what it's worth. PJ

Looks great, Paul.

Paul,

Excellent looking engine. Well done.

What was your source for the Cardinal Red paint? How did you strip the engine and did you use a primer of some kind?

Paul; You will find that the Cardinal Red colour will age as it cures and the "brightness" will dull slightly making it a direct match to the original. The best part is the paint is an enamel and once fully cured and heat set, it does not bleach with coolant leaks, and will clean up nicely without changing colour.

Nice job.

Charlie, The Duplicolor Canyon Red actually washed off with lacquer thinner and a paint brush, no scraping. Moved the engine over a drip pan to catch the washed off paint. The Cardinal Red was from Rustoleum. It's their new line of spray paints with primer mixed in it. Works very well. I used two and a half cans giving two full coats on engine and transmission. I was going to get my painter to mix some up, but I had to wait too long, so reason I used a rattle can. PJ
