MG TD TF 1500 - English VAT
Are TD parts ordered from England via internet exempt from VAT (20%) or eligible for refund if shipped directly to US |
Jon Levine |
Absolutely. On the rare occasion that you get accidentally charged, you can apply for a refund. GAC in Rockburn |

Just be sure whether his stated prices do or do not already include VAT, and remind the dealer when you are ordering that this is VAT-free. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

Jon, I ordered some Gas shocks from Moss a little over a year ago. No VAT but after I received the package I later got a bill from UPS for the import duty and a small charge from VISA for the over seas trans action. |

lAVERNE DON'T KNOW WHY YOU WERE CHARGED FOR AUTO PARTS IMPORTATION IS WITHOUT DUTY = FREE INTO US |

Don't EVER EVER let your European vendor ship via UPS. They run their own clearing house and (I believe) don't always employ people who speak English as a first language. I was once charged duty on 2045 water manifolds, but 2045 was the part number, not the quantity shipped. That would have been abundantly clear to anyone who could read English. |

Technically exports from the UK are zero rated - that is they are taxable at 0% - exempt is something different entirely. VAT is refundable on personal exportation - so if you visited and took stuff home with you then there is a personal export scheme to reclaim the VAT which you would have to pay. Just ask the supplier to confirm the transaction is zero rated. |

Sorry about the late entry here. I ordered from B&G last year and I definitely paid that VAT. It became absurd when I had to fill out a bill of lading for the shipper or some entity and they held up the order in customs! Apparently the ball check for the oil pump qualified as a ball bearing and there are anti dumping laws here controlling them. I had to fill out reams of paperwork to get it released. And they billed me extra for this too. To add salt to the wound, my credit card billed me for a foreign transaction. I don't think I will be ordering overseas for awhile. Sandy |
