MG TD TF 1500 - Everflex Hoods

I have recently seen two TFs with Everflex hoods and they looked very nice were any cars fitted With these when new?

Jan,
I don't think so,, pretty sure the answer is no,, we have a vinyl hood on our TD, its pretty old, but still looks good,, Always protected with rubber/vinyl protectant, and it is always up when the cars is stored ,,, One thing is that they are very stiff, and difficult when it gets cold,,,

The original TDs and TFs were fitted with hoods made of a thin version of Everflex. I happen to have a piece of the pinkish-brown material for reference.

Everflex was a sandwich of duck/rubber/duck.

The closest thing today is Haartz hood material,(http://www.haartz.com/vintage-restorers-guide/glossary-z note: worth reading) Haartz material is easily available but its my understanding that the thin variety hasn't been made for years and current offerings are simply too heavy for T-Series hoods.

Gordon are you able to post a pic of your original Everflex material? This may help shed some light on whether the factory attempted to match the colour of the frame with the colour of the fabric. Do you happen to know if your sample came from a TD or a TF? The reason I ask is that the TD & TF frames were apparently a slightly different colour, with the TF more pinkish. TYIA. Cheers

Everflex is not a sandwich of duck/rubber/duck. It is a Vinyl material used from the MGA onwards.

However, I do still have an original wooden header rail from a TF 1500 that has Everflex tacked on. The first owner when he was alive confirmed it was what he remembered was the original material. I am still not entirely convinced.

One of the closest material to the original was called Wigan Wigan a sandwich of duck/rubber/duck, but it fades and fails in use.
