MG TD TF 1500 - exhaust tip
| I've finished assessing my 51 TD's exhaust, and its clear that its a later aftermarket job. The hangers have been replaced with standard US hangers that attach to U bolts. The tip of the exhaust was once a stainless piece but is now... not. Is there such a thing as a 'period correct' exhaust tip and what did it look like? I saw this piece today on ebay, but I doubt it is original...?

| Exhaust tips like the one shown did exist at the time, but I don't think the MG works, per se, ever offered one. Catalogs like J.C.Whitney were rife with such add-on fare in the 1950's, though. |

| Geoff: Check out the accessories on these two links. Not may exhaust tips shown but they were very popular. http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_accessories.htm http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_advertisements.htm |

| I have the exact tip on my 51. It works and no one steals the thing like the real expensive one. |

| Don't want to hijack this thread, but my exhaust question is how far the pipe came to the back of the car? I have seen some that stick out 6 inches and some that are barely past the rear panel. Any original pictures of the exhaust? |

| Geoffrey This is the original type "clamshell" tip in place. It is cast aluminum. Tom '54 TF
