MG TD TF 1500 - Factory 1/2 tonneau lift the dot locations
I am finishing up all the upholstery work on my late 52 TD. All items were purchased from Moss and have gone well so far. The seat, interior panels and top are finished. A photo of progress so far is attached. I want to install the 1/2 tonneau, but my body man was so efficient he welded/filled up the holes where the original lift-the-dot pegs were. Can someone who has the original factory peg locations remaining on their car give me some measurements so I can install mine as the factory did. I gather from the archives that the pegs were not always in the same location on all cars, however I want to do mine at least as close to how the factory located them as possible. I spent quite a lot of time in the archives looking but never found any actual measurements to work from. Thanks in advance for any helpful information. Allyn ![]() |

So somebody filled in those holes from the seat back position rearwards? Most cars I see don't usually have extra studs there. Its forward of the original holes is where it goes nuts usually. Here is the Moss instructions but I dispute them: http://www.mossmotors.com/graphics/products/PDF/241-220.pdf My car has three in the back and does not have the 3a in their instructions. So I have 5 studs rather than the 8 they claim are original. Now this might depend on the car I suppose and when it was made. Maybe later cars had more? I never really took notice. Mines a late 52. Anyway on my car the three in the back are 1 1/4" down from the lip of the body. The middle one is centered and the other two are 1 1/4" outboard of the sheet metal seam. For the other two I would place them where it makes the most sense for your cover. Mine are where the Moss diagram shows 2d. There really is nothing concrete to measure against for those and I would use the same vertical height so it matched the other studs. Before you drill you might want to get a few more comments. |

Chris, Thanks for the information and yes it is the atuds from the seat back on to the rear, all the ones that would hold the original 1/2 tonneau. I didn't realize there was one in the center of the rear. Thanks for your measurements for the ones on the rear, and your suggestion about placing the forward side ones based on the tonneau material. The TF has only 4 LTD studs for the half Tonnaeu and this original TD-11272 has only 4. All 4 are 3/16". this TD has extra studs fitted but the hole size is different. ![]() |

Rod: Are you sure that there was not one more stud in the center back 1 1/4" down from the lip like the other two you marked? My car has the center one and it seems logical but I suppose it could have been added. Thanks for the other two measurements by the seat back. I did not really want to attempt measuring that but you came up with a good way to do it. |

IMHO: A better question might be: Does anyone have a 1/2 Tonneau that is known to have been "factory installed" and not a dealer "add on" on a TD? I would think that would yield a working template! |

Chris, no center back hole at all on this TD. Some one has added two holes in the area between the two tank straps. There are images on your site under TD 11272. this shows the 2 foreign holes. The TF did not have a center stud. |

A pic of the remains of my original TF half tonneau (4 LTD studs). Not sure about TD. Matthew. ![]() |

Thanks Matthew. Could some TD owners check to see if they have a center hole for a tonneau cover stud? |
