MG TD TF 1500 - Fan blades

Hello !
Do you know why the two fan blades are not right angle on mt 53 TD ?
Laurent

Probably because the holes are oval.

Nope Mine are the same. :)

Well not for long I now have the 7 blade lighter fan and just have to fit it....

Hoping the bolts don't brake as they come out.

Yep. I already fitted one.

You'd have to ask the engineers. I wonder how far back in MG history that offset was used. Could it fit into the recent discussion about harmonics? Bud
Bud Krueger

It had to be a deliberate reason. The holes don't match on each blade. Maybe they came from another Car set up?
And they just did not want to make and drill new parts but borrowed from another engine.

Besides you have to remember, it may also be French :)
That would explain a lot....

Looks fine to me

Let me get another set of eyes on it....ya looks fine

:-)

I think you mean "Why are they not at right angles/"

If they were it would be easier to set up a vibration, or a harmonic noise. By having uneq1ual spacing they are less in synchronism, every other blade having a different period, and the noise and vibration is less.

I always thought it was a good piece of engineering.

(P.S. I have a degree in Physics so I notice things like this.)

I also felt that's what he meant Jim. The important thing is that you have them installed correctly, with the thickened centre section of the blade facing to the front. A few years ago 5 of the 8 T Types on display had them installed backwards. Cheers

A lot of fans are that way, for complex reasons. Rest assured it was not a mistake.
Steve Simmons

On the other hand, it was a pretty primitive design. A plastic fan blade or an electric fan offers considerable improvement in cooling.
Geoffrey M Baker

My guess is that it is to enable the option of adding a third blade for another car.

Hello. I agree with Jim B.
It is to set up disharmony in the aircurrent through the radiatoe to reduce vibration in the engine and disconfort to the driver and
passenger.
