MG TD TF 1500 - Fantasy??
Well, just maybe. Driving home this afternoon in the TD on a 6 lane suburban highway I came to a stop light and a guy in an SUV pulled up and hollered "Will you sell it?" I said "No." Next light he hollared "Everything's got a price - name it." I shouted back "$100 grand cash on the barrel head." Next light he hollared " A bit steep - will you come down?" and in a moment of weakness I shouted "$50K." He gave me his name and said "Call me - I want it." Here's the fantasy - I'm thinking of calling him and offering it for $75K take it or leave it BUT only if I can get the following from one of you great car builders: My TD (1953 TD25009) is in pretty good shape but (this is a secret) I paid less that $20K for it in 2012. Here's the delivery day picture. For $75K or less, can I get an immaculate BRG with tan interior TD with all the modern goodies under the bonnet - Len's roller cam and rockers, Tom's great seals and head bolts, all the other things that will make this a reliable fun (maybe even peppy) daily driver? I'm 68 and figger if I'm lucky I have maybe 20 years of TD driving left in me. The guy hollaring is a lawyer and I've seen lawyers do some really dumb things (I am one so I can say this with confidence) but I give odds, at best, 80% to 20% against this fantasy happening but just in case, is it daoble? Love you all and thinks. Jud ![]() |

I don't know but the lift gate on that van has my attention. But ... As you said lawyers are strange creatures and I generally find it best to go the other way when they approach me for any reason. Just saying. |

Jud, Can I get his name & phone number? Chris, Our boxtruck 2000lb liftgate comes in real handy getting cars in & out (note that Honda CRX is a convertible). My old pickup had a tilting bed and a 500lb liftgate, and I could pick up TDs with that, too. ![]() |

Jud - for $50k you can buy the nicest TD around, or a decent TC AND a TD. With maybe enough for a drivable TF, as well. If he is serious, I would very much consider it. I have a beautiful, fully-restored TD Mark II (forged crank, custom rods, Crane, etc. etc. etc.), red/tan, I would sell for a lot less than $75k... Send ME his name! Tom Lange MGT Repair |

I wouldn't sell my TC for that, since my wife and I are quite attached. But I'd probably sell any TD for 50K, since you could replace it with the nicest restored (and upgraded if desired) TD in history. |

Jud, When/if you seal the deal, ask him if he has ever heard of a TF1500 ...then please give him my contact info! Much as I love my Izzy, @ $75k she's out of here! |
