MG TD TF 1500 - Fiberglass running boards on TD ?

Noticed the running boards on my friends 51 TD last weekend were fiberglass.
Seemed odd.
Anybody seen these before / know who made them?
Just curious if there was a company selling these as replacement's at one time, or if somebody adapted them from a kit car.

Some fiberglass body parts were available in the late 70s/early 80s from Moss and others. I think splash aprons also. George

"And he says "you have the kit car?"
Yep...and I kept trying to stick a magnetic "Drive Away Cancer" sign on his running board all day! LOL

All in fun, we a good time. A lot of the awards at this show went to new Corvettes. (Evidently 2012/2013 Corvettes are "rare"!)
Show was sponsored by a Corvette club, at the biggest Corvette dealer in Ohio.
No registration fee, free food, cheap beer, lots of free-bees, big screens with football game on, live bands, ect. Over 500 cars.
It was a heck of a party!

My TD had four fiberglass fenders complete with fiberglass front and rear aprons installed somewhere before I got it. Here's the sticker that is attached to the inside of one of the front fenders.

It appears to say:

Made by Dolp-- Fibres for

Toul--n Motors Ltd.

181, Londo-- Road

Isleworth,

Midd----

**********

So it would appear that there were some glass manufacturers that were not kit car builders.

Dave

[I've still got these four fenders and two aprons if anyone wants them]

Party sounds good, cheap food and free beer would have been even better ;-)

Dave:

Very interesting. Dolphin Fibres made their name producing fairings in GRP for motorcycles; indeed they took their company name from the dolphin-like shape of the first of these. If your replica TD parts are of the same standard then they must be pretty good.

At the 1994 GOF in Trumbull Ct,,,here was a T register machinist from Southern Ct who made Kelvar fenders and head light buckets for T types,,

Toul--n Motors Ltd is "Toulmin Motors Ltd" They where well known in the 50s through to 70s for MG tuning. they still exist but now extend their work to other marques.

The fake TF called a Gentry has glass fibre wings and running boards. Even though the car looks totally wrong I suspect moulds for steel parts were taken from original items. Glass ones may still be available. Gentrys turn up on eBay - often under MG TF even though I think they are based on a Triumph Herald. They shouldn't be confused with the Naylor TF replica which is very well built.
