MG TD TF 1500 - Ford Sierra T9 5 gear box
For all guys who are interested on a conversion Ebay 231287001747 It is not my offer; I’m just forward the information without any interest. Guenter |

This is on Ebay Germany. Any idea what this in USD$? Plus Steve Neal over here who I believe did these is no longer doing them. |

Actually Steve Neal (Skyhook Engineering) used a Datsun transmission for his T series conversion rather than the T9. Steve has had some health problems and along with a shortage of Datsun transmissions has caused him to stop. |

Try the UK eBay site. There are still plenty of type 9 gear boxes over here. I bought one for £100 and paid £200 to get it overhauld by a specialist. This included new bearings and synchro cones. He had a repair kit on the shelf left over from the 1970s. Andy king will sell you a conversion bell housing for about £300 and if you have a little engineering aptitude you can make up the rest of the parts you will need. If anyone is shipping a type 9 get the seller to remove the bell housing since it doubles the weight. Jan T |

there is currently a t9 gearbox on british ebay site. It says it has the 'long input shaft (Capri V6), ratios 3,65 - 1,97 - 1,37 - 1,00 - 0,82' Is this suitable for MGTD conversion purposes? |

Geoffrey, All gear ratios suitable for the TD can be found here: http://hi-gearengineering.co.uk/content/view/13/28/ The ratio you posted seems to be the standard ratio. R/Gene |

Hi Geoffrey, The long input shaft gearbox is from a 6 cylinder car and isn't suitable for a T Series conversion. The one to really avoid is a gearbox from a diesel - the ratios are all wrong. Google Ford Type 9 Input Shaft Length and you will find lots of info. The bell housing I bought from Andy King is so good a TD owner up the road from has bought one as well. Jan T |

Geoff Baker.... The short answer is ...Yes you can use the long input shaft trans in the TD. The bell housing has to be machined a bit, as the HD trans has an extra piece for a heavier bushing on the layshaft. The input has to be cut down slightly. There is a good article on T9's that gives you the info on the different transmissions. I used a long shaft tranny in my MGA, but I put the short shaft in it, which was procured by Peter Gamble at Hi Gear Engineering. |

I got my completely rebuilt T9 from John Esposito. Love it. Had to move the engine 3/8" forward. Worth the work. |
