MG TD TF 1500 - Forward U-Joint Zerk Fitting
I just finished servicing "Kermit" for the upcoming Rocky Mountain MG Club's annual tour to Moab (this year it is really going to Moab). Everything went reasonably smoothly except for the forward u-joint. It is impossible to get a grease fitting on the zerk without dropping the front end of the drive shaft. Is this unique to Kermit or has anyone else had this problem? The solution appears to be an extended fitting but I worry a bit about throwing the drive shaft out of balance. I'm looking forward to any input from others. Thanks! |

The last pair of u-joints I bought came with a long and a short zerk fitting. I still have one of the long fittings if you would like it. Contact me off board with your address. I knew it would come in handy some day. |

Both my TD and MGA have the long zerk fitting installed at the U-joints, front and back. They face 180 deg. from each other , so I don't think balance would be a problem. The amount of weight involved so close to the axis, I would suspect,is not a problem either. |

While made for a flush grease fitting, a needle adapter will work for a regular zerk, just get it centered and it will pump right in. Jim ![]() |

Thanks all for the input! I didn't realize that a needle adapter was even made. It could be a real hassle saver. |

You just have to keep a firm push on it. |
