MG TD TF 1500 - Front Bumper Bracket Spacer

One of the issues with not fully restoring my car is that I am always finding small inexpensive single items I need, and always "after" I placed an order.

I'm looking at the Front Bumper Bracket Spacer (Moss 400-100) to see if I can source them locally. Does anyone know offhand the diameter, thickness, and hole diameter?

Larry
I measured mine on the car. 1 inch diameter, 1/2 in long. Drill the center hole to fit the bolt.

I have an extra one for the rear bumper and was just looking at it. Seems to be a very light metal, perhaps aluminum alloy. I'll bet you can make some.

Thanks Tom. The one I have on the front right side of my '53 TD (left is missing) looks no more than 3/16 - 1/4" thick. Now I'm wondering if I even have the correct size on that side. ???
L Karpman

Thickness of spacer is critical to ensure bumper does not foul front wheels when they are on full lock.

"Thickness of spacer is critical to ensure bumper does not foul front wheels when they are on full lock."

Agreed. Now I just need to know the factory thickness for a '53 TD.
L Karpman

1/4 inch would be too thin. I even extended mine a few millimeters with washers.
Sorry the pic is so dark.

Oh, TD. Larry, I have a TF. They may be different.

Tom, Moss lists the same part # for the TD and the TF. Doesn't mean it's factory correct, but that's another reason why I asked.

There is a set (front and rear) on EBAY right now.

Thanks Dan. Seller says, "Do not know if they are front or rear!! Believe there is a difference in thickness!!"

Well me neither, except I believe the spacers he shows are for the rear, and I don't know what the washers are for.

Hence my question :)
L Karpman

I just removed mine this week from my TF and these look exactly like my fronts. The washers are unknown to me, but maybe are for the back side of the bumper.

Dan, the large ones look exactly like my rear spacers which measure 1 1/4" and came from Moss, except mine are not painted (his appear painted green). The Moss exploded view show the fronts much thinner than the rear. I really don't think the fronts should be 1 1/4" so now I'm really confused.
L Karpman

I am in error. Mine are from the rear and they measure 1 1/2 diameter and 1 1/4 long. I have the fronts stashed out in the barn if you need the measurements of those as well. Mine are original and are painted black. What's left of it anyway.

Sorry for the confusion. Long day.

OK, after screwing this up I just had to know for sure. I went out to the barn and measured the fronts. They are 1" in diameter and a shy 1/2" long. Also painted black. Which is the original color of my car.

Thanks again Dan, I think you nailed it. Just what I needed to know. :-)
