MG TD TF 1500 - front license plate mounting & carb overflow tube?

I've got a 1950 TD w/ a Moss Motors badge bar & after market fog lights. I'm trying to figure out a way to mount the state required front license plate. I'd rather not mount it under the bumper. The plate is currently mounted above the bumper using the crank hole as the attachment point, but that position blocks about 1/3 of the fog lights. Suggestions & pictures would be welcome. Re the overflow pipe, the one on my rear carb is only about 3 inches long, so I got a new one. Clearly it has to be bent to shape & maybe shortened. What is the length of the rear tube & what is it's routing? Again, suggestions & pictures would be welcome. Thank you.

W. Check out the pic on the current paint source thread. It shows a barn find which should answer one of your questions. I happen to subscribe to this route but there are a few that don't. Time for one of your "Here we go's" Ed? :-) Cheers

Whats wrong with under the bumper? If you go above you may block the lights but even worse you block radiator air flow. I suppose you could fabricate up something and mount it off to the side above the bumper kinda like on the rear.

I personally think they look like they belong under the bumper. The two holes underneath were there to mount a British license plate originally, long and narrow.

As far as overflow lines go, I fabricated my own and ran them down in front of the engine just below the sump. PJ

Perhaps move the plate forwards a fraction and raise it to just overlap the bottom edge of the bumper, without actually touching the bumper. Then the lower edge of the plate will be further away from the ground.

Paul,
Nice job on those overflow tubes !!!

Thanks for the advice. I got the Moss brackets & plate holder & went w/ that. Still haven't made up my mind about the rear carb over flow tube.

W. - Your currant mounting of your front license is exactly the way I have had the plate on our TD for the past 40 years. The only thing to watch out for is to not run the car up until until the front wheels touch the parking curb as the license will scrape across the the top of the curb (enough to scare the hell out of you, but not enough to damage the license). Mr. Haynes, Moving the end of the overflow tubes up in front of the engine down in front of the sump, helps eliminate any overboard fuel from getting on the exhaust pipe should a float valve stick open, a situation you do not want to happen! My car, years ago had an engine fire for that very reason and caused an accident that did a lot of damage to the car as the driver panicked and hit a guard rail before he could get the car stopped. It's worth the extra effort to move them. JMHO. PJ

Steve and Mr. Haynes, I modified the banjos also so I can disconnect the overflow tubes if I want to remove the bowl tops or carbs. The lines stay in place. PJ

Parking lot curb sensor. I hate that sound when you roll up over a curb.
