MG TD TF 1500 - Front Splash Apron Needed...

Due to some self-inflicted damage (about which I am *seriously* kicking myself), I find myself in need of a front splash apron. Mine is toast. Whilst I was beginning to jack the front of the car last night the front cross-member slipped off the hydraulic jack (before I'd had any chance to even slip in the jack stands)... thankfully it missed the chrome grille, but when the car went crashing to the ground the jack popped up through the splash apron and nearly entirely tore it off. This is the first time I've *ever* had a car come off a jack, but then that's what I get for working late (2 am) and trying to move too quickly. *SIGH*

Anyway, does anyone have a reasonably serviceable front apron they'd be willing to part with?

Kevin
TD or TF?
If TF, I have one. I bought a new one last year (quite reasonable, I thought)
My old one is serviceable. If interested, I could post you photos.
Email me.

Oh, yeah, sorry, Tom... I should have said what it's for. It's for my 1952 TD. But thank you!

Google sportscarmetalwork. Metal Micky who makes MG body parts sells them for about £85 I bought a pair of running boards from him and they are excellent.

Try Hugh Pite, he has a bunch of T series stuff. I don't have his email address handy as I'm on another computer, but someone here knows it. PJ
Paul S Jennings

Thanks, Paul. I've got his address, I think (jenntoo). I'll drop him a note, but if he doesn't have one I'm still searching....
Kevin McLemore

Thanks, Jan. I'm in the US, so I think perhaps the £156 plus shipping from the UK to the US might work out to close to what the Moss item costs.

I'm on a really tight budget with this MG - I've already sunk a ton - so I'm trying really hard to minimize costs. (Of course, being a wee bit more *careful* would help! SIGH)

I have a very old repro apron made of three parts welded together, never installed. It would need some fitting, filler and bodywork to use. You can have it for the shipping/packing cost. Email me if interested. George
George Butz

George, I'm sorry but I don't have your email... I'm interested, so if you can drop me a note at "kmclemore" on that hotmail system? Thanks!
Kevin McLemore

You've got mails. Bud

Hi Kevin,
I have a front splash apron I got from Hugh last year. I thought my original was not repairable, however a bodyman magician was able to work it back into perfect shape. The one I got from Hugh is in reasonably good shape, but will require refinishing. If you are interested, you can reach me at " rahamgeorge@gmail.com ".

Kevin,
I have an old one. Yours for the postage. If interested I'll take some pic's.
Mort

I must admit, I'm suffering an embarrassment of riches here. You guys are absolutely the *best* bunch of guys - I never though I'd get so many kind offers!

Mort, you're in NJ and if I recall you're near 8A on the turnpike, I think? I have to travel to Princeton tomorrow (Saturday) to watch my son compete in a swim meet at 2:00 pm. Would it work for me to stop by either before then, or on my way back, and have a look?
Kevin McLemore

I wanted to thank everyone for the *overwhelming* response to my request for help. As it happens, Mort R. was very close by to my house and offered me an apron he no longer needed... it was perfect for my needs and he didn't even have to ship it! Oh, and BTW, he's got a super-nice TD with a blower.. he gave me a tour of the car and it's really nicely put together. The only thing I didn't like was that his garage was *way* too clean and well-organized... I now feel seriously guilty about the state of mine! :(

I also want to recognize and publicly thank George B., George R. and Hugh P. for their similar offers of usable aprons - you guys are GREAT! And a big thanks to Bud K., too, for hooking me up with a needed email address.

I've been a member of Sunbeam, Triumph, Austin and now MG communities, and I'm also the lead moderator for the MacGregor boat forum, and I've found them all to show similar camaraderie - everyone's extremely friendly and quite a few are willing to generously extend themselves to help a fellow owner. It's why I love the British car (and even boating) hobbies so much... everyone involved contributes to fostering this spirit, and thankfully, there's very, very few curmudgeons or trolls.

Thanks to you all for keeping this hobby a real brotherhood (and sisterhood?).

Kevin McLemore

I totally agree, Kevin, I am always amazed by the generosity of my fellow MG owners... what a great bunch of people!!!
Geoffrey M Baker

Curmudgeons?? You bet. We've a had a few. One even threatened to sue me. Most recently, my kindness of sending a rare and hard-to-find water pump seal, backfired when the chap disappeared into the jungle.

And I sent a rare 50 amp bullet fuse to OZ thinking I could find another easily ... WRONG!

We've had at least two saboteurs on here, but Mike Plumstead our fearless Webmaster in the UK, dispatches them forthright.

Oh well, I've been at this game for 60 years, and the ratio of good to bad is in the range of one to the nth.
