MG TD TF 1500 - Fuel Sending Unit Cover Plate Screws

I stripped the tiny screw when installing a new (thick) cover plate gasket on the TF fuel sending unit (photo). Not enough screw threads making contact with the inside threads. What size is that cheesehead screw? 4BA? 5BA?
thanks,
Tyler

Tyler -

I don't know the screw size, but I have a question about your gasket ...

How thick is your "thick" gasket?

The gasket on my neighbor's '55 TF is leaking. (Yes, two '55 TF-1500s on the same block!) I told him that I will cut a new gasket for him from 1/16" cork-rubber gasket material. Is that thinner than your's? If yours is thicker, why did you choose to use the thick gasket?

I appologize for the hijack.

Thanks,

Tyler - The mounting screws are reported to be 3BA, so perhaps so are the ones holding the cover on. Cheers - Dave

Whatever they are they're available from both Abingdon Spares & the other mob. Cheers

If the threads are stripped, their more than likely stripped in the casing, not on the screw! PJ

I used a 1 mm paper gasket plus Blue Hylomar, and it is bone dry on the outside - for the time being..

Got the gasket from Doug Pelton. It is very stout and much thicker than the original. The 4 screws are only 1/4" length, and I will now need longer (1/2")screws. I don't dare tighten the other 3 screws.

Yes, the 6 mounting screws are 3BA and the 4 side panel screws are smaller, either 4BA or 5BA (maybe 6BA?), but need to find out for sure so I can order longer screws from Brit Tools.

Thanks for any help. Tyler

See the reactivated thread about Moss' error with the sending unit screws. BTW, the only sending unit gasket set that I would use is the one from Abingdon Spares. Bud

BTW, the A/S Sending Unit Gasket Kit is their 019-157h for $2.82. Bud

Caution, do not overtighten the electrical stud gasket. Don't ask me how I know!

Bud's post on the other thread he mentions is ESSENTIAL reading!!!
