MG TD TF 1500 - Fuel sensor gaskets.
The gaskets supplied (by B&G) for sealing the sensor to the tank come as two different forms: a rubber gasket and a cork gasket. Are both used, if so, in which order. If only one is used, which one and why. Finally do you use a sealant on the gasket faces? |

the rubber one is the one to go for, the cork is a composition which is too stiff. I just use rubber grease lightly tighten and only nip up if it passes fuel. Also check which screw goes into which hole, over the years all sorts will have been put in. Ray TF 2884 |

I purchased the improved version from Peter Edney : https://www.mg-parts.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=3_10_68_162&product_id=213 No leak since 2014. Laurent. |

Laurent, I also purchased the same from Peter Edney around the same time. It fell apart a few months ago. I decided to make my own from Viton so while I am at it when the weather warms up a little that damn switch is going to be replaced with my own version. It should read 3mm not 2mm. The 'Old' Abingdon Spares sold a green gasket that was as perfect as any I've come across. It may have been Viton. Bud |

If you want to make the seal yourself here's my drawing. Regards Declan |

Interestingly, having removed the sensor it is clear that the flange is distorted by overenthusiastic tightening on previous fittings, giving serious 'cockling'. Now filed flat and ready for the return. |
