MG TD TF 1500 - Fuel Tank Side Panels
Copied from the Almond Green post, what is the purpose of these felts and are they necessary? PJ

Either to trap moisture and cause rust, or more likely to slightly hold the end cap slightly off of the tank edge, to avoid rattling/buzzing/metal to metal contact. Just a guess, but that is what I think. George

I think George is right... Avoid rattling

Sounds reasonable and I agree with the moisture trap also. This is the first time I've encountered them as I've never seen them from any of the venders. PJ

I agree they are to dampen any rattling. My TF has them and surprisingly they show no evidence of attracting moisture or developing rust problems. JB

I used closed cell foam tape instead to prevent the moisture problem.

The factory used felt in a lot of places. I wouldn't recommend putting any back into the car. Much better alternatives today. All 3 T's I've had here used it on the tank panel ends. Presumably to stop the drumming noise.
