MG TD TF 1500 - Fulcrum Pin - Sump

How do I remove the two fulcrump pins in the sump on which the clutch lever pivots?

Light whacking with a hammer didn't work. I have removed the split pins and the castellated nuts. Don't want to damage the fulcrum pins. Don't want to knock out a chunk of aluminum from the sump.

I'm switching the worn fulcrum on the left side with the unused one on the right side.

Thanks for your help,

Could the pin be screwed in to the sump? Use the cotter pin hole to get torque? Jud

Hmm. I did that 50 years ago and they both just popped out. Did you try soaking in penetrating oil or perhaps putting ice around the sump at the pin to open the hole a bit?

Vice grips. Grab and rotate to break free. Obviously pad the good one as much as possible. Maybe heat the pan with propane torch, then ice the pin and try twisting out. George

Thanks, guys. They're out.

I squirted some PB Blaster on the pins. Then, I wrapped blue tape around the "bad" pin and twisted it loose with Vice-Grips. That didn't work with the "good" pin ... maybe I was afraid of scoring it. So, I used the bare Vice-Grips on the collar of the pin against the side of the sump and twisted it loose. I filed the side of the collar to make sure it was smooth against the sump, and filed up the edge of the collar to make it look pretty.

The "bad" one was badly worn. Glad that I switched them while I have the sump off.

Now you are set for another 75 years. More if you keep it lubed.😂

I was about to say that the only lubricant that works is graphite powder/flake.
I then remembered your pivots are not on the exhaust side.
We may have a simpler linkage on our RHD cars but pay for it with pins that wear out in a very short time.

That is one of the reasons that my clutch rod kit comes with a lever with 2 needle roller bearings and a grease nipple. The needle rollers are actually cheaper than a replacement bronze bush but that is not the reason.
