MG TD TF 1500 - Gas Monkey Allison TD Replicar

Noticed on the recent Fast and Loud proramme that Richard Rawlings from the Gas Monkey Garage bought an "Allison TD Replicar" for $800. Strange to see the petrol tank opening and a VW engine underneath! I don't think the Allison looks as good as the Naylor TF replicar which was a high quality product with many original parts, including a steel body. I was at the Hutson factory, in Bradford, a few weeks ago. They took over manufacturing of the Naylor and in fact some of the cars are badged Hutson. My brother and myself (he has just bought a new body for his TF frum them) were given a tour of the factory and saw T Type and Juguar E Type bodies being made. They appear to have many spares for the Naylor replica including a stacked pile of radiator shells!

Richard Rawlings hadn't been able to sell the Allison at the end of the programme.

Are Hutson making TF replicas these days Jan?

Hi Mathew,

I don't think they are - the O series engine the car used was replaced by the K series a few years ago and I didn't see any complete replica cars at their factory. There were quite a number of Jaguar E Types though and lots of spares for T Types. They had just built two brand new TF bodies - one was in a crate destined for the States and the other was for my brother's TF. I bought two new door skins and the steel flanges that clad the sides of the door frames. The quality is excellent.

I don't know if there are any Naylors/Hutsons in Australia but the build quality was excellent - probably better than an original car. The only things that spoilt them were modern regulations (probably from the EU) which meant forward opening doors and a fixed windscreen. Switches and the dash are also padded. I have seen the odd car which has been converted to original spec TF doors and probably other bits and pieces as well.

I owned a Fiber Fab "MIGI" TD Replica for a while. It was fun to drive but sooo fake feeling. The body quality was BAD. I am so glad I bought the real thing.

Where all the Naylors/Hutsons right hand drive?

I want one! Of course, I'd have to fix those doors!

Good link Bill. I cant recall seeing any in Australia though. T type replicas are surprisingly popular in New Zealand. I often spot them on their Trademe website.
