MG TD TF 1500 - Gas tank cork
Hi I plan to replace my fuel tank lid gasket. Have a new cork one. Should I soak it in engine oil or gas first? Or, place it in dry? Tom '54 TF |

Hi Tom, I just pushed mine in carefully dry, no probs. |

I used oil. Drop in a sink tail piece about 5-6" long to use as an anti slosh anti over fill device to keep the gasoline from leaking out on turns or when a full tank is parked out in the sun. The newer fuels can act as paint remover on older paint. |

Thank you. Len, I can't quite picture what you mean. Could you post a photo? Tom |

Len is 100 % correct. When you install the sink tail piece get a brass one and drill several holes up near the top. this will allow you to fill the tank full. Some tail pieces are a bit too large and I cut a vertical slit to compress them a little bit. Sandy |
