MG TD TF 1500 - Gasket Sealer - Sump

What are your recommendations for gasket sealer for the sump-to-block? Sealant on both sides of gasket?

Any sealant on the gasket for sump-to-suction pipe flange? Same as sump-to-block? Sealant on both sides of gasket?

Thanks for your help,

Nowadays, I almost exclusively use the orange Permatex High Temperature sealant on almost everything. Never a problem anywhere.

I don't know about for this application but, in general, some recommend sealant on only one side with axle grease on the other side to facilitate later removal.

Use Permatex orange or blue, but be very sparing. Be very careful to not use excess around the oil passageway. I have used Permatex Aviation Sealer for flat areas, and a dab of blue Permatex at the corners of the rear cork and front rope seal. Pretty hard to remove, but hopefully that will be many years. Bit or a Permatex fan like Lew, but i tend to use grey, it's a good allrounder for both gasketed and non gasketed joints and coolant resistant.
just a smear on both sides-
For something like the pickup tube, go light with it so it doesn't end up where it shouldn't---I usually get a bit on my fingers like between my thumb and pointer and smear it on them then just use my fingers to spread it lightly on both sides of the gasket and then bolt it up straight away -------

I use Permatex Right Stuff on almost everything these days. It's amazing how well it works in every situation I throw at it. I use sealer on both sides of the gasket, taking great care around the oil hole from sump to block. Definitely seal the suction pipe to block connection, as even a tiny leak here can cause priming issues.

I recently followed Wii's advice on the Permatex Grey - but only a very small amount each side, after thorough checking/flattening of the sump pan. I used the Grey as a sealant around the new lip seal I fitted to the pan groove and timing cover groove. No leaks now from the front crank seal.

I have used Permatex Gasket Dressing in the past in similar contexts to the sump to block edges and found it to be excellent with its fluid resisting properties and non-drying feature. Amazing stuff.

I use Permetex non hardening gasket cement on the sump side, and clean grease on the face of the top of the gasket, with a small dab of Permetex “the right stuff” grey on each corner. I also use the Volvo double lip camshaft seal on the front seal. I glue it in place with grey “the right stuff”. No leaks, and it is easy to reseal if the sump has to come off again.
Be well,
