MG TD TF 1500 - Gaskets
I've a question would you expect to find a gasket between the bell housing and gearbox on a TD? |

I wondered the same thing since the front bearing doesn't have it's own seal but for the lip seal pressed into the bell housing. None was found on my bell and none shows in the parts books that I've seen. Seems counter intuitive to me too |

There is a seal already there, in the bell housing, sealing the first motion shaft. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

Just looked at the gasket kit I picked up today. There is no gasket provided for bellhousing to gearbox. Just for top cover, shift extension and gearbox to tailstock. ... CR |

Thank you.As I thought.Apart from the oil seal on the first motion shaft there is no need. The gearbox I've just stripped had one-I suspect "homemade" |

Hi Tom. On the question of gaskets I wondered if a sump gasket made in the silicon material you provide for the rocker cover & breast plate would solve the rear seal leaks on T types? I know about the other options for the front & rear seal however I've been told if a cork gasket is correctly installed there are no rear leaks. I'd appreciate your comment here.
