MG TD TF 1500 - Gearbox overfill
Hey all, Finally getting back to the TD project. Not thinking, I put a full quart of redline 75W90 in the gearbox which is supposed to hold 1 1/2 pints. Leave it or not? Thanks, Tom |

Tom - Just get a turkey baster and suck some of it out. Actually your local NAPA probably has a heavy duty version of said turkey baster. Cheers - Dave |

Hi Tom, Here is a similar thread that I started when I did the same thing. Just so you know, I sucked out some of the excess gear oil and my tranny is none the worse. http://www2.mg-cars.org.uk/cgi-bin/or17?runprog=mgbbs&access=&mode=archiveth&subject=8&subjectar=8&thread=201403092326474151 Lonnie TF7211 |

Hey all, my gearbox is installed and I can't seem to get a wire down to the oil, much less a turkey baster.. Thanks for the idea link Lonnie. I guess a small tube is the answer but where to source? I even removed the shift lever housing but could not get to the oil there either. Holy Cow, what a bother! Tom |

I did the same ...just loosened the drain plug a little till it hit The "mark". |

Hey David, I am thinking the same thing. No "after-drip? Tom |

Easiest thing to do is loosen the drain plug. Use a laytex glove and you'll stay clean. |

Tom - If you have a turkey baster, you can get various sizes of vinyl tubing from Home Depot or Lowe's or some fuel hose from NAPA to stick on the end of the baster and be able to reach into the gearbox and maneuver it down into the gearbox. That said, the easiest way is what Dave S. and Steve recommend. Cheers - Dave |
