MG TD TF 1500 - Generator Fan
I have a Jan 1953 Lucas generator on my 1954 TF. It has one of the thin stamped fans that is fastened to the front of the generator. It has forward and backward play and might be making a bit of rattle noise, not sure if the noise is tach box or the fan. Does anyone know if this is normal (probably not) and if it can be corrected? I don't even know if this has a bearing or how to tighten. |

First, disconnect the tach drive and see if the noise goes away,, Is it only the fan that has the play, or is it the fan AND shaft??? SPW |

Is the nut that hold the pully on tight??? |

I checked and it seems I can wobble the pulley a bit too. Is it even possible for that nut to be loose without it coming apart? I will try to get a socket on it. Know if it is metric or American? |

The nut was loose! I tightened it by fingers, then used a wrench. Can it be too tight? It looks like it does not affect the belt itself. Sound right? |

make sure that there is a lock washer on it,, Tightening the nut will not affect the belt,,, You want it tight, but not to the point where you are straining to get it tighter.. SPW |

Thanks, I will check to see if washer is there. |
