MG TD TF 1500 - Global Shipping Programme

Boy does this suck! An ignition key purchased on Ebay for $3 costs $46 to send from the UK to Oz via the Ebay Global Shipping Programme!! I tried to complain to Ebay but nobody is in the least bit interested. This post is to suggest that the GSP be avoided whether buying or selling on Ebay. Unless of course you enjoy being taken to the cleaners. Cheers

Sellers can get around this Peter if they want to it is just a grab for extra profit.
G Mills

Peter, just get it sent to me, and I will post to you for a pittance (or a beer if you are ever over here).

If this is helpful, email me for my address.
Ian Bowers

That's great Ian. I'll take you up on that as I often buy tool kit items & other bits & pieces from the UK. Email to follow. The same goes if you see something that is only sold to Oz buyers. Just let me know. I also have a guy in Ireland who visits this site who will help me with Ebay stuff that is sold there. Many thanks. Don't think the missus & I will ever make it over your way but I do have some nice reds in the cellar if either of you ever find yourselves in Sydney. Cheers

I had the same problem eBay wanted $30 to ship a $10 item from the UK. Seller kindly cancelled sale then shipped it privately for $8. It's an eBay ripoff. Contact the seller directly and make a deal.
Geoffrey M Baker

Peter, if you're searching and buying toolkit items let me know if you find or end up buying extras. I want to start assembling one myself!
Geoffrey M Baker

Geoff I do have most of a second kit put together including a new bespoke hessian tool roll, but again the shipping is the problem. This is the latest reply I've received from a seller in the UK:

"Hi Peter, eBays CRAZY international shipping program strikes again!!!! I have been trying to opt out of it but have not found a way yet. If there is no way I will just have to stop selling to international buyers. I would normaly charge £2.50 standard international postage. Do you have a friend or relative in the UK who could forward it on to you?? It would just cost 55 pence to send it to them. Regards Peter.

Seems the seller is also trapped by the Global Shipping Programme (GSP), but as I've never sold anything on Ebay, I can't really comment. Looks like both buyers & sellers lose out & the only winner is Pitney Bowes (the ar$#@&*es behind the GSP). This guy is selling a key that would cost me an additional $46 to have sent to Oz! Cheers? Well maybe not..

If your sending an item like a key or keys, tape them flat to a greeting card and send them regular post. Worked for me. PJ

I have had my issues with eBay over the years and finally reached the end with it. Ordered goods, gave them my COMPLETE shipping address after resetting my password numerous times. Almost a month later, the goods arrive at the local post office and marked as undeliverable due to incomplete address. Post office has now sent the goods back to the vendor. Delve through the routing updates only to discover they posted my shipping address with my name, city and state ONLY.

Wrestle with a few more failed passwords attempts, I tried contacting eBay through their customer service channels. NO REPLY. Got eBay phone nbr. and had to endure three "pushbutton" surveys after four attempts to speak to someone. The customer service person with a heavy "eastern and halting accent" (English not his native tongue from the land of sand and camels) told me he could not help and hung up. Mind you, I'VE BEEN BILLED FOR THIS!!

Contacted the vendor direct, and resolved it. They very empathetic and are reshipping the goods to the COMPLETE address I supplied them.

When the goods finally arrive, I end my eBay account.

My wife said I have no patience. I held a pair of scissors to her "Resident Alien" green card and replied, "One snip and you're on your way back to Buckinghamshire"

Ahh, peace.

Cheers

Thanks Gary. I needed a good laugh. PJ the problem is that the seller seems not to have that option, or at least he believes that he doesn't. Cheers

After doing some searches I ran across these three posts on an eBay users site showing how to "Opt Out".

Not easy but doable.

You CAN opt out of the Global Shipping Program.

Go to:

My eBay > My account > Site Preferences > Shipping preferences > EDIT > click 'yes' on 'opt out of the GSP > you will get this:

'You successfully opted out of the Global Shipping Program'.

Also you can 'check' the countries/continents where you do NOT want to ship to. You can check all the places you do NOT want to ship to, besides countries/continents - like PO Boxes, etc.

Also, it is better to always check your listing to be sure that the box for 'GSP' is not checked by eBay.I had my own experience where

I checked all places where i do not want to ship to - but i found anyway few of my listings with the box GSP checked. I had to review the listings and 'uncheck' the box for GSP.

Re: How to opt out of global shipping

For items already sold but NOT yet paid:

As long as the buyer did NOT pay, you can ask the buyer to click "Request Total." Then, you can send your invoice. This will bypass Global Shipping Program.

For items that are listed now:

You can go to your shipping preferences and click "NO" for Global Shipping Program. But due to Ebay glitches, GPS can show up AND checked even if GPS is marked "NO" on you shipping preferences. The surest way to delete all GPS on your listed items is to call Ebay representative. They can quickly remove ALL GPS option on all your listed items.

For items that will be listed in the future:

Make sure go to shipping preferences and click "NO" for Global Shipping Program. But due to Ebay glitches, even though I had checked "NO" on GPS, GPS was on my listings AND checked. You just have to be more vigilant. Make sure when you are listing items on Ebay, on shipping option section, GPS is unchecked.

Thanks Jim. Valuable advice. I've saved this & will pass it on to sellers who believe there's no way out. Cheers

I have sold many half shafts with this program thinking it was good for the customer. If any of you are interested deal with me directly. Unfortumately if I suggest to complete the sale outside of eBay they can and will take away my privledges
