MG TD TF 1500 - Glove box pattern
Somewhere I saw a drawing complete with dimensions to fabricate a new glove box. Would anyone know where I may be able to find this. Many thanks. John...Sydney

Are the TF glove boxes the same dimensions? Probably not, but I have hopes. PJ

Hi Paul, I don't think they are but mine are out of the car and I can make paper templates if you can't find something locally. Jan T

They are not Paul.

| G'day John. Check out the archived thread TD Glovebox Dimensions. Kirk has posted some original pics. I've just made one (pic attached) & am about to make another two. I'm sure you'll find it helpful. I've ordered a 1kg bag of flocking from Germany in the correct brown colour & density so when you get yours made give me a yell. Should be enough to do about 15 cars. | Thanks Peter, I have contacted Graeme off list and await his reply. I will get in touch as soon as I make my glove box. Incidentally, I have cut out the carpet underlay from the pattern supplied by Don. I will get them back to him as soon as he is back home. He went away for a few days last Tuesday however I am unsure when he will return. Regards John |

John, Rob, Don & others. Flocking has arrived in Victoria. Should have it by the end of the week. Colour is a great match to the orginal. Just received the pic attached. Cheers Peter TD 5801

Jan T Apologies for not thanking you for your offer for a paper template of a glove box but Graeme has kindly offered a copy of his and he is a little closer than you. Thank you once again. John...Sydney

Looks like contraband except in WA and CO :-)

Wouldn't recommend smoking this stuff!

Someone sent me drawings for a TF glove box through Royal Mail and I'm not sure who it was as there is no return address. Was it you Mr. Mills? I want to thank the sender, but not sure who to thank! Grin. PJ

Hi Paul, It was me! Sorry I didn't put my address in the envelope. Jan T

Well Thank you very much Jan! Much appreciated! They will come in handy when I start on the glove boxes. PJ

The fibre board "halves" to my gloveboxes are complete and untorn but have buckled. Can I flatten them by soaking them with water and clamping them between two pieces of plywood? Perhaps I could use epoxy resin farther than water? Jan T
J Targosz
Jan when making my recent batch of TD glove boxes I simply used a plastic squeeze action water spray bottle & only sprayed the 4 corner areas where I required the fibre board to bend. Too much water & you'll end up with an unworkable soggy mess. I found as the boxes were the same in cars that were made 2 1/2 years apart it was worth my while to make a jig from construction ply which made fabrication of perfectly shaped boxes a whole lot easier. Just had some feed back from one of the guys who wanted an "as original" brown flocked TD glove box & he was thrilled with the result. As the suppliers in the States charge about $150 including shipping to Oz for an unflocked item, he was really stoked. If anyone wants a 30gm back of flocking, which is enough for two boxes, cost is just $5 plus postage. Cheers Peter TD 5801
P Hehir
Peter how much do you charge for a complete glove box. John
John Walton
John I haven't costed one as the boxes I've made I've exchanged for original tools & parts. Apart from my time the most expensive item is the sheet of fibre board. I'd guess about $100 plus postage for the flocked box. (Typo in the post above. Should read 30 gm bag of flocking). Cheers Peter TD 5801
P Hehir
Yes Peter. I know the person you contra'd the glove box for :). Who did you purchase the fibre board from, was it Daley's ? John.
John Walton
Yeah. Daleys about 3 years ago. The sheet was about 2m square. You're welcome to borrow the jig & assembly instructions if you want to knock one up yourself. Cheers Peter TD 5801

Thanks Peter, I would like to take you up on that in the new year if that is ok. John

No worries.
