MG TD TF 1500 - Guess who's in the 1000 mile plus trip club
Our own John Brickell. John drove down from Olympia, Wa. to my area in western Colorado to partake in the 62nd Glenwood Springs Rallye this weekend.

Two long days in the saddle and he looks pretty good :-) He will be shacking up with our own Ed Haskell and partner up with Ed for the rallye. ![]() |

It was a tight fit in Ed's garage but we pushed John's car against the wall and the Ed's bumper to bumper. They just fit inside the door.

I wasn't kidding about the bumper to bumper.

The dynamo or regulator crapped out the final 10 miles from my town into Ed's place. We will dig into that tomorrow. You all should be here...should be a fun weekend. ![]() |

Man... Glad to know you made it John. Wish I could be there too. It would be fun to drive with you all! Alex |

Now we might find out what you get when you mate a TD and a TF. A TuDF? What's the gestation period so we can all be at the delivery? Good luck on the trip. Sounds fun. |

Congratulations JB That's a long drive from Olympia. Do you guys have a spare dynamo? Post more photos Tom '54 TF |

The bumper pic seems to indicate that there was the odd insect out there on your long yourney !? regards, Jan |

All he needs now is Whitworth Nuts cap. Bud |

What's your altitude there? Is there a possibility of becoming a member of the MILE HIGH CLUB? Sandy |

Does Cindy know that he and Ed are shacking up? Congrats to all of those who are willing to drive their T-Series Long Distances! Have a great Rally! Diane and I are meeting up with Dan Craig in French Lick, Indiana for the MGB stuff. warmly, dave ![]() |

Wishing I was there ...on the way...or on the side of the road somewhere trying to get there! |

Ok ...maybe I should have said camping out with Ed and Cindy ..:-) Mile high...uh the car went over a pass in Utah tha would get that distinction. We are at about 4800 Ft. There drive Friday will take them up over 10000 Ft a great deal of the time. John mentioned that the car seemed a little down on power. I smiled inside and thought welcome to my world. By the end of this weekend he will understand why the Green Hornet as a supercharger. He has the badge Bud...One of our long distance members. No good spare dynamo or regulator laying on the bench and he has one of Bob Jeffers regulators. May have to pull something out of my TD to keep him on the road. We will find out later this morning. ![]() |

How fun! Wish I was there. George |

Congrats... Now I need to start planning Lily Christine IV's fist 1000 mile trip... probably up to San Juan Island to see the family. But more importantly...what on earth is that on the road in front of Ed? Looks like it fell out of the car.... Is it his favorite blanket he never travels without? Or a cactus shaped whoopee cushion? |
Geoffrey M Baker |
Ed's size 12 shoes...he takes them off before entry and put em on when he gets out...somebody aske if it was a dead squirrel.. :-) |

Those are the infamous 'driving slippers'. See the thread a few months back. A must have T accessory :-) |

Super! Will get to me Ed and John at last! Will have my Whitworth hat on! Sans TD though, oh that supercharger idea in order to partake keeps crowding my brain cells! Randy |

Found stash of used dynamo's in town...not sure about the control box. What are ya driving Randy? |
MG LaVerne |
Unfortunately Laverne I'll be driving the Audi A4 once again. The TD just doesn't have enough oomph to do the divide. I'll be foothills only until the day a supercharger enters the picture. |

Just wanted to post my own follow up to LaVerne's thread. My TD made it's first Interstate-70 excursion Thursday from Grand Junction CO uphill (way up!) to Glenwood Springs. It kept up just fine with the trucks. It even passed one! It then spent the night covered up with it's new blanket. LaVerne and John rode backup with his truck towing his TD and trailer. We then took the empty truck back to GJ. Next morning John and I set out in his TF and got to our rally point start in Montrose, 60 miles away. That is the leg LaVerne and the deer met each other (see other thread). We then completed LaVerne's beautiful 200 mile "observation" rally leg from Montrose to Glenwood via some of the most gorgeous T type roads in the world! (Did you know it is 31 feet from the top of Blue Mesa damn to the river below? Now you do!) Next day was the TSD on more beautiful roads surrounding Mt. Sopris near Glenwood and Aspen in my TD. It performed beautifully. We did not, missing several checkpoints due to road construction and general novice skills of both the driver (me) and the navigator. (It was the first rally for both of us.) But we had a blast! John got "travelled furthest" award and LaVerne got a special "hard luck" award for his deer adventure. I finally got to meet Randy as well. TD and self made it back home to Crested Butte just fine the next day. Now it gets a well deserved bath. John and LaVerne will probably post some better pictures later. I was too busy driving to take many. Ed ![]() |
