MG TD TF 1500 - Half Tonneau Support
I have a half-tonneau, with no top. The space where the stowed top would be is therefore empty. At this point, I have no plans to acquire a top and would therefore welcome suggestions for a way to support the half-tonneau to prevent sagging. Any ideas?

Why don't you do what is done in the MGB. Make up a bar to go from side to side. Maybe use the side curtain fixtures for holding. ...CR

The original half tonneau was secured at the front with elastic straps passing over the bars on the seat backs. Do you have enough tension on the straps? Matthew.

I've got a bar across the back of my seat (TD). Perhaps you could rig up something like a garment bar that would hang just behind the bucket seats, then drape or snap the tonneau over that.

I'm interested in the original details of that bar MA. It's just about the last item I need to reasonably confidently say I've now got all the missing parts... There's nothing in the archive on this item. If anyone has a drawing or pics that would be great. Cheers Peter TD 5801

CR, good suggestion. I will explore that option. Matthew, I do have straps, but they are stretched. I will explore tightening or shortening those straps. MA, your suggestion sort of parallels CRs suggestion....both good. Thanks to all who responded. I will share the results of my trials and solution.

| Peter Attached is the Tonneau bar in my TD (very early 52') In the next post I will attach a drawing of the seat back showing where it mounts. I do not have a drawing of the bar, per se.

| Here's a photo of my tonneau bar made from 16mm stainless curtain rail from the DIY and fabricated polished aluminium brackets-a cheap solution. Regards Declan

| I had a full tonneau made from a local trimmer and he sewed in three velcro strips so when folded back and used as a half tonneau the velcro secures it to the bar and there is no flapping about. Regards Declan

Thanks Jim. The drawing looks terrific! Declan I'd like to ensure that if I make a bar it satisfies the originality police so if you or anyone has the details of an original item I would really appreciate it. Cheers Peter TD 5801

Peter , I made my own from measurements of an original one from our good friend Don. Rob.

Jim, can you share the drawing in a file with better resolution? Jesus

I think he has a TF, rather than a TD. Bud

Jesus; You have mail. I sent it in PDF format which has better contrast and I sent a DXF if you have a CAD program. Jim B.

Two pics of my bar, 53 TD. Pretty sure this is an aftermarket part.

Hi Frank - I assume you have a TF - Based on your log in name. The TD bars mentioned above would be inappropriate for a TF. Matthew is correct about the two small bars that are attached to the seat backs - totally different from the single bar used on a TD.
