MG TD TF 1500 - hardware for louvres panel TF

Does anybody know with which hardware the louvres panel (in the bonet sides) are fitted?

Moss catalogue doesn't show anything...

Self tapping screws? Bolts and nuts? Which head, Phillips or slotted?

Self tapping screws. These go into steel clips that go around the edge of the holes in the lower bonnet sides and receive the screws (sorry forgotten the proper name). I used Phillips head screws but am not certain they are as original.

I believe they are called "speed nuts"

John,

Phillips type self tapper screws, into speed nuts with washer underneath head. Note: The original screws were 'blunted' on the ends. Reason: The Factory worked out that flat screw
ends saved one's knuckles when delving deep into the motor bay!

Cheers.

thanks for the answers, so self tapping screws with and "speed nuts" should do the job. The speed nuts are on the car, but the panels were fitted with countersunk wood screws which are surely not original. Hence the question.

I first was thinking that original they used bolts and nuts but I couldn't figure out how to reach the panel on the inside.

John, There was only one of these on my car when I got it, even the louvered panels were missing. I replaced them with these and then used SS screws with the points removed. I also used nylon washers to protect the paint, they look nice. PJ

I forgot to ad, that when I installed the speed nuts, I used a small piece of construction grade plastic sheeting over the paint, slid the nut on and then slid the plastic out, which prevented scaring the paint with the nut. PJ

That is a good idea Paul161!

Some varieties of these "Speed nuts" have serrated teeth to bite into the panel they are attached to. The originals I think did not have that feature, however the ones that were supplied to install my TF radiator slats did.
