MG TD TF 1500 - Help! Door latch pillar brackets
I'm assembling parts on the TF and ran into this: Please look at this photo of the mounting of the door latch pillar bracket. As you can see, the capture nuts are inward towards the door. Now, look at the next photo. Tyler ![]() |

In this photo of the other door, the capture nuts face away from the door. Which way is correct? As all the mounting hardware (wood screws) are different, which screws are correct? Any washers used? thanks, Tyler ![]() |

Picture 1. As a general rule anytime you have captive nuts they will be on the weak side of an object. ie the bolts will pull the nuts into the support object. With picture #2 your bolts would try to pull the nuts from the object. |

thanks Chris, Should I use pan head or flat head wood screws? any washers? |

They were actually flat headed machine screws with a flat washer under them. Seems odd but that was what it was. Check out this new page I posted yesterday from Rod B in NZ. He took apart a very original car and you can see this as one of the details. (image 16). http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/Pictures/TD11272/Thumbnails/mgtd_gallery_thm_TD11272.htm |

I wish I had those shots when I did a TD. What a treasure. Now if only Rod had a similar photo file for the TF to the same degree of detail. Starting from a pile of parts has been a real challenge.... Bob B |

I wish I had those shots when I did a TD. What a treasure. Now if only Rod had a similar photo file for the TF to the same degree of detail. Starting from a pile of parts has been a real challenge.... Additionally Rod is generously sending me a sample of the biscuit color for the TF with Biscuit interior. When it arrives I will obtain a paint formula for posting on TF website. Bob B |
