MG TD TF 1500 - Hidem at 'B' Piller

How do you mate the two pieces of hidem at the door pillar?
Does it end just at the joint or does one section overlap the joint or do you mate the two at an oblique angle or something else?

Isn't the original continuous? Bud

I can’t be 100% sure that it wasn’t cut at some time to facilitate removal of the rexine panels, but here’s what my original hidem looks like, with a joint at the panel joint. It’s the same on both sides.

Bud.

As the panel comes from Moss the hidem is sowen onto the panel. A tail is left. about 3" longer than needed. I have no idea what to do with the tails.

The beading from the wheel wells, under the door up the A pillar, across the dash. down the other A pillar. under the other door and up the B pillar, finishing off over the wheel well is one piece
.

There is a second piece for the door.

To splice without sewing, remove an inch of stitches on each facing piece, on one side, remove an inch of inner welting cord. On both pieces, fold the vinyl back on itself so you have finished edges showing. Shove the welting on one piece into where you removed the welting on the other piece. Now you have cording throughout with two finished edges facing each other.

Sorry, I was thinking welting, not hidem.

My mistake, Jim. I'd forgotten that the panel under the door is a free-standing piece. I'll have to go and look at Lazarus in the morning. Bud

B pillar:They T intersect at 90 degrees.
Pic of my original (partly covered by carpet).
This is TF.
A pillar is continuous across the join with no cuts.

Thats very interesting Matthew.
I have replaced my Quarter panels. The folded metal extends into the cockpit more than the factory metal. I have had to drill holes through to fasten the panels.
Whit this method I can skip drilling a few holes.

I'm not sure I know my A pillar from my B pillar from a hole in the ground, but FWIW all 4 joints on my TD look like the one in my picture above.

I am going with Joe's picture since my hidem, as supplied by Moss, is too short to form the T as Matthew shows.

Thanks all
