MG TD TF 1500 - History on my car?

Since I bought my TF, I found out early that two owners back has a lot of maintenance history on it with receipts for work done in the past. I've been three years or more trying to get him to let me have them. I even offered to buy them or pay him for his troubles. He has been promising me all this time he will send them to me, but with no results! He has no use for this stuff but I do, as it would allow me to research the cars history a ways back to, when ever. It's a shame there are people like this who give their word to preform and never follow through. I've asked for this stuff many times with no response. Kinda makes you loose faith in some people. I guess I was born in the wrong century, as I believe a mans word is his bond. I guess I'll never get these papers, what a shame. Sorry for the rant, just ticks me off every time I think about it. PJ

Paul, can you identify the location of the prior owner? One of us might live nearby and offer to pick up the history and send it to you.
Jim Merz

Birmingham Alabama. I forget his address, but could get i. Email me for more information if needed at,

Hope you have better luck than I.
Even after returning family photos of his I found in the car, and sending him $50 for mailing ...I'm still waiting. (15 years)

Same story here. Been waiting since '83 for mine.

Ha, You guys are full of encouragement! Grin. I've just about lost all hope on getting anything from this guy. PJ

Just got a message from someone in Alabama who knows this guy. He said he will work on him to get me this info. Nice gesture on his part, hope he's successful. PJ

Hi PJ et al,
It isn't always that you have such bad experiences from a PO. This Jan. we bought an old wooden sailboat, built in 1928. We, Pat and I, met with the owner and his wife many times over about 6 wks, dinners together, etc., before he'd "allow us" to make an offer, even tho' it'd been advertised for a yr. We have become good friends. He had 2 photo albums, which are now ours, one showing the some early history and the 3 yr total rebuild it underwent at the hands of a very competent boat builder, and a shorter repair job after hurricane damage. We have much of the provenance of the boat, no idea of the first owner (~1929-1935), but know who the remaining 3 owners were, and have so far gotten more info from 2 of their descendants.
We feel that we've become the curators of this boat, much like most of us feel about our T-series cars.
You can see some of the story at

I will be adding to it.

Paul, you may have hit it lucky with the person in Alabama. Best of luck on the results.

Thanks Jim.
Hey Al, the link didn't work, how about a photo of the boat! I love antique boats and I'm sure others would like to see it also. PJ
