MG TD TF 1500 - Hood Latch parts
One of the TF hood latches was missing the cone nut and spring (photo). Would anyone happen to have a latch, good only for parts, or just these 2 parts? thanks, Tyler ![]() |

Tyler Moss has the springs. I ordered one yesterday. On my TF, 3 had springs, one did not. I'll bet you can find the "cone" at the ACE hardware store. Tom '54 TF |

Hi Tyler, Sorry I can't help with the parts but the cone should be easy to turn up in a lathe. However, how are you going to finish the latches? Mine were exactly like the one you show - all the original plating gone. I have bead blasted them ready for plating but the guy who has done the rest of the brightwork can't do cadmium and has recommended someone else who can bright zinc plate them. It's about a hour from where I live and I will be going over to see him, along with the seat runners. I'm interested in what you propose to do though. Cheers Jan T |

Jan, See if you plater can do the items you mention in "dull zinc". A close match to cadmium. Bright zinc will make it too shiny. |

I have one of those vibratory parts cleaners. I ran my latches through that two stage process and they came out looking like new. I then sprayed them with rattle can clear coat. Tom '54 TF |

Anybody tried DIY zinc plating? http://home.comcast.net/~rt66tbird/website/zincplating.html http://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/showthread.php?63715-Zinc-Plating-with-Yellow-Chromate-Conversion-How-to-achieve-that-factory-look&s=a01c6edf499fa5d068bfadce4d9b622b Lonnie TF7211 |

Tom, what kind of vibratory parts cleaner did you get? I bought one from Harbor Freight that wouldn't stay on the counter it vibrated so much. Thanks. Larry |

Larry, my parts cleaner is from Eastwood. I can look for the specific model if you like. I'd say it is medium sized. First, parts are in with diamond shaped re-useable abraders and a powdered parts cleaner with a small volume of water. After rinsing, they go back in with fine walnut shells. Those are re-useable. It came with two tubs. It does a GREAT job cleaning parts. I've been very happy with it and it was a boon during my resto. I had it on the garage floor when in use. I keep it on a piece of carpet to keep it from moving around. Email me if you want the model number. Tom '54 TF |

Thanks, Tom. It is only a couple of months until Hershey, and Eastwood usually has a tent sent up near the stadium. I will take a look at them there, as they usually have specials, plus there will be no shipping. Thanks again. Larry 54 TF, 53 YB |
