MG TD TF 1500 - Horn dip switch lever repair

I repaired my horn dip switch lever with a paper clip and POR 15 epoxy. Not perfect by any means but it is functional and from the driver's seat it look great.

There is a product called Sugru which could prove extremely useful for that type of repair and many other applications. I haven't tried it yet.

Thanks Dave. Declan, Sugru looks very interesting. I wonder if it would be too flexible for a lever. The internal structure (paper clip) I used might bend. I ordered a packet and I'll use it for some repairs around the house. Then I'll have a better idea of its application for various projects.

A 2-part epoxy putty would be better - easy to mould into the required shape and rigid when set.

Dave, the POR 15 Epoxy is a two part part putty. Also, it is easy to shape with water on your fingers. I've used it on steering wheels and it has held up beautifully.

Yes - its definitely the best option for a job like that. Not too keen on it for fixing TD, TF, etc., steering wheels though owing to the nitrocellulose rim. Eventually you will get separation and cracking.

A thought: you can get high tensile piano wire from model shops, and it might give you a stronger armature in the epoxy. It is easy enough to bend to shape with pliers - I use it in gunsmithing, to replace broken flat springs.

David, the method I first saw for repairing the lever used a piano wire. I wasn't aware that a piano wire held it's shape when bent. I assumed it was like a guitar string. I have two more levers to repair and I'll check out the piano wire. Although I'm sure a paper clip is much cheaper.
