MG TD TF 1500 - How to adjust angle of firewall?

I need to rotate the top of the firewall forward about a quarter inch.

The top of the right side of the firewall on my TF leans back too far to accept the nailing strip on the front quarter panel. The bottom of the nailing strip on the front QP fits between the wood front side inner and outer rails. The top of the quarter panel nailing strip is in front of the joint between the two wood side rails almost 1/4 inch. The nailing strip on the bottom of the quarter panel is flush with the bottom of the wood bottom main rail.

I pounded the angled wood "chassis frame to body wedge" between the wood inner rail and the attachment plate on the chassis hoop, but it didn't move the firewall enough.

The firewall has elongated mounting holes. The attachment plate and hoop for the wedge have elongated holes. What do I adjust to move the top of the firewall forward?

I don't want to even to think about bending the front nailing strip on the QP.

What am I missing?

I know that this is about as clear as mud.

Lonnie, did you have the front quarter panels and scuttle off? PJ

Bill -

I think I found a solution.

Your request for photos and info brought me back into the shop to look at the problem from a different perspective.

I was focusing on the firewall instead of the QP. If my solution doesn't work, then I'll reopen the post.

Thanks for your indirect help. Sorry for my rambling, useless post.

Paul -

Stripped everything down to bare chassis. Firewall & supports, body frame, wood bottom rail bolted into final location.

Quarter panels resting in place on new pillars. Scuttle not attached yet, but I have sat it in position a few times.

I know that I'm gonna have trouble positioning the new wood front top & side rails for the scuttle and front quarter panel. Old ones are pretty beat up.

Holding everything together with clamps while I tweak the wood.

Lonnie. It is always the metal panels who desides the shape and where the wood is placed
Hope you understand what i mean

Lonnie,

This may not be totally relevant to your firewall issue, however sometimes the strengthening chassis 'hoop' can be moved out of the original right angle (to the chassis frame rails ) position through previous accident damage. It doesn't take much movement here to throw out the firewall/bulkhed fit ups. Chassis frames can look perfect geometrically until accurate cross measurements are done !
Just a thought.

This is one of the reasons the S section "chassis and frame repairs" of the workshop manual was kept from view of prospective buyers of these cars when new! LOL! PJ
