MG TD TF 1500 - How To Check Gear Box Oil
Though it was time to check the oil in the gear box. It looks like the dip stick is under the heater. Is there a way to check it without removing the heater? Since I could not find anything about the heater in my books, I am guessing that it is not a stock item, so I am attaching a picture. ![]() |

you are right, it is under the non stock heater. If I was in CA, that would be the first thing I would remove. |

I believe I have the same heater (an Arnolt) and my dipstick is behind, not under, that heater! There should be a section of carpet back there that comes out, about 5" long exposing a removable plate under which the dipstick lies. If not, your's is different. Ed |

I checked Arnolt on the web, and that is what I have. I could feel the back where two studs hold it to a bracket. I am going to remove it and put a loop of hose on the fittings for now. Thank you for the help, |

If you don't want the heater, remove it. But to just check the dipstick that should not be necessary. At least not on my TD. Just wanted to clarify that. Ed |

If mounted correctly, i.e., as originally designed. The heater is suspended from a lip on the back of the tool box and isn't touching the carpeting. The gearbox dipstick is accessible through the removeable piece of carpet. See http://www.ttalk.info/Tech/Arnolt.htm Bud |
