MG TD TF 1500 - How to remove fuel screen filter

I have a fuel line adapter (goes into the bottom of the tank) with an old but marginally serviceable filter screen. I know new mesh filters are available but I'm not sure how to remove the old filter. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Are you talking about the original screen filter? Why do you need to remove it? It's soldered in place permanently.
Christopher Couper

Chris, I cleaned it and it is OK but it was bent and I'm afraid that it will tear at some time in the future. I'd rather replace it now when the tank is out of the car and empty. I know From the Frame Up has replacement filters and I'd rather purchase that and not spend money for the fitting I already have. I thought I saw picture or a video of Doug replacing the filter but I can't find it.

OK, I did what I should have done in the first place and called From the Frame Up. Derek advised just pulling the screen out of the fitting and to heat it up if it didn't come out easily. I heated up the fitting and the screen came right out. New screen on the way.

Now we all know. How do you get the new one back in? Just pushing could buckle it - unless it’s an easier fit than I imagine.

Dave I believe there is a longer brass barrel on the end that allows you to grasp it and push it in to the threaded fitting. I've ordered one so when it arrives I'll have more information.

When I pulled mine out to check it, after cleaning, it went right back in the hole with no problems.A little snug, but carefully rotating it back and forth was the trick on mine. PJ

Mine is out at present so here's what it looks like. Seems to be soldered in place at the fitting Tim. Cheers

Thanks Peter. I heated mine with torch and pulled the mesh out of the threaded fitting. I think the filter provided by FTFU has a brass barrel on the end that you push into the threaded fitting. BTW old wire mesh burns a very pretty color. lol

Easy install: tear off or remove old screen and hold replacement with pliers and tap in. the base may need to be shimms to get a snug fit. See photos. We have plenty in stock, lots cheaper than the full adapter. Doug

Doug is there a reason not to sweat solder in the new screen?

Laverne, you would have to be careful with an open flame the mesh on my old one burned like a Roman candle. But that may because it somewhat rusty.
