MG TD TF 1500 - Hub cap medallions

Owner brought out the original medallions for rehab and the fixings were in the bag as well. What I found interesting was the "u" clips used to fix the medallions to the hub cap. There were only 3 which isn't surprising as two of the medallions have the cotter pin sheared off on both sides. These get placed on over the stud and with slight pressure you can then insert the cotter pin and the pressure with keep the medallion from spinning. What say the originality police?

Hmmm. I vaguely remember some sort of spring that went under a fiber washer that went under the cotter pin. Maybe that was an aftermarket setup.

My 53 TD has 5 which I'm quite sure are original that look like this, with round spring washers. I wouldn't call the originality police quite yet because it's a verry small detail and who knows what the factory did over the course of production.

Mine match Joes.

What OP member is going to rip off a hub cap to check the fixing?
Lew Palmer

The ones on my 50 TD are round thin spring washers. I had three with my caps. They are about the thickness of the ones LaVern listed.

I did not find fiber washers.

I happened to have this on my workbench. Original off of my 9/10/51 built TD, or at least on it when purchased in 1971. All of the various repros or later supplied factory caps have had the round spring washer. Notice how deep and sharp the crease in the cap is compared to some repros. George

Thanks George. It's not like anyone will see the difference but it's nice to know that these were something that belonged on the car.

Another production change or perhaps just a different vendor?. So we have rectangular and round. Rectangular looks to be the correct one for at least 51 and older.

If you can George, take a measurement of the depth of your original. It looks like it protrudes out farther than my repops.
