MG TD TF 1500 - Hubcap Medallion springs

I was wondering if anyone had been able to locate suitable spring washers to attach medallions to the hubcaps on an MG TD. Moss doesn't seem to have them but I was wondering if they were a common part at auto stores or maybe even hardware stores? These are 'dished' thin washers that compress to make a tight fit to the hubcap.

You will have to source an industrial hardware supplier, but yes those washers are still made and available. They are called "Bowed tension washers" The downside is you may have to buy a box of 100. Maybe someone on the BBS here has some and will mail you what you need.

Hope this helps...

I have an original set I bought off ebay.
The Medallions seem to be held on by (first the spring, which is called a Belleville Disc Spring or Belleville Washer, then a flat washer and then a cotter pin.
Mine seem to have a 3/8 hole and a OD just a bit larger than 3/4". they measure 0.015" thick
Looking at McMaster Carr the closest they have is part #9712K68

0.380 ID by 3/4" OD
But they are 0.028" thick.
This will increase the force a bit. I think they will be usable.

I did it a bit different but again works like a charm.

Before I put the washer on it I placed a viton o ring on it then a fiber washer and cotterpin . They hold now for 4 years perfectly.

I just moved to a thicker fiber washer. Thick to where The cotter pin grooved the washer a little bit. No rattles or movement.

As I was not aware that a specific washer was used to fit the medallions I used an ordinary flat cad plated washer, gave it a whack with the ball on a ball pein hammer to dish it. I then inverted it, fitted the split pin & finished it off by filling the void under the washer & coating the washer & pin with a silicon adhesive. Cheap, quick, watertight & effective fix. Cheers.

Lots of good simple solutions here. I think the closest match to the original "dished" washers which have a curve on one axis of the washer, is a "wave" washer, which has one or two curves. The "Belleville" washer is a fully conical washer. The main difference between a "Belleville" and a "wave" washer is that "Belleville" washers require greater pressure to deform. I think the "wave" washer is probably closer to the original and needs less pressure to deform and thus lock the medallion. Anyway, I've ordered 50 of them from ebay for $9 - you can't get much better than that pricewise even from regular washers. Thanks for all the suggestions!

I got the wave washers in and installed the medallions on the hubcaps. I used metal washers over the wave washers, and compressed them in a vise against a piece of half inch pipe I had cut a notch in which would allow me to slide the cotter pin in. Worked very neatly and they are in very solidly - probably tighter than the original.
