MG TD TF 1500 - Hylomar
Should I use Hylomar blue sealant or any other sealant on the valve cover gasket and or rocker cover gasket. Or original cork without any sealant will be good enough. Boris |

Way back when I used the cork gasket. I sealed it to the head with ASutomotive weatherstripping adheasive,,It stayed in place, and took a little longer to leak,,,,, Then I switched to the Silicon Rubber gasket,,, Many miles and many cover r&r's and still no leaks!! MUCH better than cork,,, contact Tom lange and get one!!! http://mgtrepair.net/ Steve |

Boris if you stay with cork use a permatex product to "cement"it to the head and hylomar is fine for the rocker cover to gasket side. There will be many more good suggestions I am sure. I went with Tom lange's gasket myself. No leaks. Regards, Tom |

My mechanic suggested I not use any sealant just make sure the valve cover is tightened down well. Some time I plan on buying Tom's silicone cover though... |

I'm not an expert, but I don't use any sealant on valve cover cork gaskets on my TF or my '54 Chevy truck. Nothing more than a slight oil ooze under either valve cover. Easy to remove the valve cover to adjust valves. I used Permatex Super "300" Form-a-Gasket Sealant on both sides of the push rod cover cork gasket on the side of the truck engine. It's non-hardening. No leaks. Permatex Super "300" http://www.permatex.com/products-2/product-categories/gasketing/gasket-sealants/permatex--super--300--form-a-gasket--sealant-detail Lonnie TF7211 |

Gasket sealer against the valve cover, grease against the head. No leaks, looks nice, and comes apart easily. David |
