MG TD TF 1500 - I need an 8' bell housing

TF I'm working on has a 7 1/4" one and thats not gonna fly.

You can always modify the 7 1/4" bellhousing like one the picture. It works fine on my car.

The workshop manual says the thrust faces won't line up correctly with a late block and early gearbox and vice verses.

You can't convert the 71/4" clutch bell housing to an 8". There is a difference in the depth between the centre line of the clutch shaft to the face of the bell housing. Also, the shaft on the 8" has a larger dia. than the 71/4". From memory (and it is not too good at times)the 71/4" has a 5/8" shaft whilst the 8" has a 3/4". I have just gone through this exercise in the last month.

Laverne, a friend and long-time T series builder may have an 8" bellhousing for you. I'll let you know when I hear from him. Freight from Florida may hurt a little.

The 3/4" shaft was moved back about 7mm to accommodate the 8" clutch. The 7,1/4" bellhousing (5/8" shaft) can be used with the 8" clutch if the inside bosses are machined back to clear the clutch cover.
