MG TD TF 1500 - I'm Keeping the Ortiginal Colour
My TF had a brand new Naylor body and new ORIGINAL! MG wings fitted in 1968. Unfortunately due to the death of the then owner the car was left in grey primer paint until earlier this year when I bought it. I have photos of the car from the early 60s showing it to be red and the chassis number confirms this. I have allways lusted after an ivory TF and was going to change the colour. I took the firewall to the body shop to be painted this morning and the owner, who is a 1950s Harley Davison owner, saw the tool box lid which is still red and refused to change the colour! He has persuaded me to stick with red and I am relieved the decision has been made. I relise this is not a technical issue but other owners may have had the same experience. Jan T |

You will get used to it. You can still pick between tan and red interior and the color of your tires :-) |

Jan, can you post a daylight picture of the red toolbox lid? We are after original finishes. Or email me: mbmagilton@ msn.com Cheers, Matthew. |

Now you have to buy an ivory one too. -David |

mine is MG red with red interior, i.e. interior is more of a light maroon than red. Love it! Jan |

Interesting! Mine is an original ivory car, painted green when I got it, and I'm painting it red! |

Hi Matthew, I attach a photo showing the red colour. If it's not good enough I could try to send one to your personal email. I also have the original door skins stored away and could dig them out, cut off a square and send it to you but suspect there would be problems with postage. The red colour is darker than the one shown in the "Original T Series" book. Jan T ![]() |

Hi Guys I have an Ivory '53 which is the original color (with the green interior and grill slats). (late model Fords have a color, Wimbleton white, which matches perfectly, which is very convenient)I wanted a deep red or Maroon color but I got a great one owner car for a reasonable price so I'm happy with the Ivory. I will not change the color (can you imagine a red car with a green interior? Merry Chistmas!) I have a friend with a beautiful '67 e-type Jag who changed from dark green to white because the green was too hot. I had an e-type and I remember how hot my feet would get so I can't fault him too much. Keep the original color! JMHO / Chuck ![]() |

Chuck, That is a great looking combination. Regards, Jim |

IMHO Way to many are MG red! Do it in any of the original colours or what ever colour you like! Maybe the less in your face rarer darker shade of red called autumn red,its sort of a burgandy, maroon! ![]() |

Pilkie, Your car has the look I'm striving for! I believe you said it was a Rover color. Jim |

Always thought this was an odd combination. Not exactly Christmas-y

Thank you for the photo Jan. I would be interested in receiving a small sample if you think that would work with the mail. How do you think the colour compares with the original car in my photo? (Always difficult to tell on the computer screen, I know). Cheers, Matthew. ![]() |

Hi Jim. In this country it is called MG/Rover Autumn red, dates from the 50's/60's and has the code RD06. Codes and formulas, change over the years,so I can only presume it is the closest thing to what they originally used, but in solid 2pack. Hope that helps! Nuther piccy!! Best sportscar in show 1wk after finishing it! Well chuffed!! ![]() |

Started painting TF-HDE43/1714 today-looks like it is going to be a pretty good match to the original samples from the car. I sent a hinge from the car with the original almond green metallic to TCP/house of color and they matched it. It is lacquer so I won't know for sure how it looks until I buff it out, but it looks to match the original samples pretty well. James ![]() |
