MG TD TF 1500 - Information on MG dealer in Decator Ill
His name was John Kilborn and today I received quite a few newspaper write ups about his racing explots. None unfortuneatly in MG's but oh my...Porsche 356 America, Jag 120 and 140's..Ferrari 375 MM, Ferrari 121 LM, Chevrolet Corvette, Ferrari 750 Monza, Ferrari 446, Ferrari 446 S, Ferrari 290 MM, Scarab Mk II and the Hi-Tork Special. Were talking a dozen races a year or more from 1952 through 1960. Also there is a newspaper write up about his race in Venezula in 1957 that included Sir Stirling Moss among others. Lots hear to read. |

Picture of the man with his daughter in a TD during a gymkana. Early 50's. His son inlaw (now 73) says he really din't like MG's but they sold them along side the Jags. Also says his wife learned to drive a stick in a TD

According to the story it didn't last as he had an injector failure and Moss went around him

Looks like the guy was a heck of a racer. I'm drooling at the cars he drove.

Google is your friend (John Kilborn race car driver) and using many of the links I provided you the the TD Americas pages: http://www.racingsportscars.com/driver/John-Kilborn-USA.html http://sportsillustrated.asia/vault/article/magazine/MAG1131685/index.htm http://tomstrongman.com/my-dads-vintage-photos/ |

I scanned through it briefly last night Chris..I didn't see his name come up as an MG dealer but his daughter said he sold them along side of the Jags. |
MG LaVerne |
LaVerne: He is not listed because he jumped ship to Jags and Ferraris almost immediately. That was quite common for the very early (mostly TC) racers. I think his dealership was in Il. Decatur, Kilborns, 235 W. Wood Street The dealership still seems to be in business. ![]() |

Thanks Chris, I'll bet his daughter would love to see that. Can you email that to me? A "ROASTER" should be good for cooking chickens ...lol..and oh my those wide tires :-) |
MG LaVerne |
Hah! I never noticed the Roaster. Where I found it was in an OCR newspaper. That's where I would have suspected to see Roaster vs Roadster but this was the actual image. Just pure typo of the day :-) |
